In March, Josh joined members of AIA Chicago and AIA Illinois for the annual Prairie Grassroots advocacy day in Springfield. On the agenda this year: letting our legislators know that Architects are a valuable technical resource to tap into, especially with Gov. Pritzker’s ambitious BUILD Housing initiative, and the protection of architects’ professional status.
As architects who specialize in housing, we are uniquely positioned to serve as guides, partners, and subject-matter experts as our politicians address Illinois’ ongoing housing crisis. This session, we’re encouraging our representatives to reach out to us as a vital resource. The governor’s BUILD initiative consists of several bills that help alleviate housing shortages, such as allowing more dwelling units by right on all residentially zoned lots, parking minimum reform to reduce costs, and modernizing building codes to allow performance trade-offs. These common-sense steps help push along smaller Missing Middle housing projects throughout the state.
Aggregate Studio is proud to serve as an advocate for housing in the Chicagoland area, previously speaking with alderpersons, city officials, and representatives. We also advocate through our efforts with Abundant Housing IL, Landmarks Illinois, and through AIA Chicago. Please reach out to Josh with any questions.
