The rooftop addition of this Andersonville home creates a bright elevated space that rises above the surrounding neighborhood streets and into the area’s rich old growth tree canopy. The new residential level, which is stepped back from the existing vernacular two-flat, features a primary suite, additional bedrooms, and a roof deck which forms a secluded treehouse space surrounded by mature neighborhood trees.
The design creates a feeling of escape and respite, with uninterrupted views of the sky and connection to the surrounding greenery through strategic placement of windows and form adjustments. We maintain the original building proportions while introducing contemporary design elements that enhance its architectural character. The compact design of this expansion creates needed space that enables the house to expand harmoniously with its residents.
